Listen Up! #rebelrecommendations

Okay, listen up…literally!

For those of you that listen to podcasts, you already know that they are something to love/ For those of you that don’t have a clue about what a podcast is or why they’re something to love, they are an audio file that is made available on the internet (or a podcast app) that you can listen to whenever and wherever you’d like. When looking for a great podcast to subscribe to we recommend that you look for these five listen-worthy characteristics:

  1. A captivating speaker, someone who is intriguing in their delivery.
  2. Great content is a must. If you’re gonna listen on the road or while on a run, you want it to be made up of good substance.
  3. Look for extra. Some of the best podcasts have additional fun info or resources to share from unique recommendations and giveaways to exclusive promotions that their listeners can take advantage of.
  4. Podcasts in all the places makes it an easy find so look for those that offer their podcast on multiple streams (i.e., website, podcast app, social media).
  5. Some of the best podcasts are 20-30 minutes in length, which is a good amount of time to be inspired and learn something new.

Whether you already have your fav listens or you’d like to start, we’ve got some podcast rebel recommendations you’ll want to check out!

*Don’t have itunes? Look for these podcasts on the author’s website or social media accounts.

  • Atelier: a podcast by our very own Rebel Diamond Leader, Amie Dockery (so it’s kinda our favorite recommendation, #sorrynotsorry! The Atelier is “a no-profectionist podcast for possibilitarians, and the ideal environment for you to succeed.” Since we’re partial, let us hook ya up with this additional bit of info…we LOVE the coinciding study going on right now via Facebook about the state of our heart. It’s called Create In Me (check that out too).
  • Business Boutique: a podcast by Christy Wright “for women who are making money doing what they love.”
  • TED Talks: talks to inspire, intrigue, and stir the imagination from some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers.”
  • A Drop of Inspiration: a “Young Living podcast with leadership lessons and an inside perspective on the company.”
  • The Essential Oil Revolution: a “wellness revolution of inspiring speakers, DIY recipes, healthy living tips and more with Samantha Lee Wright.”

We know, we know, you love us for this awesomeness. Well we love you too, you’re welcome! Once you listen show your love for these rebel recommendations by going to the itunes podcast app and leaving a bragadocious review. Feel free to mention that you heard it here first, on Rebel Artisans’ website.

Heart shaped cookies, cute Valentines for your kid’s class, a dozen roses from the Mister, and maybe even a date night planned… typical Valentines, huh?

But this year, let’s make the love month a bit sweeter! How about hosting a Galentine’s Night?!

Send the hubster and the kiddos to a movie and have your girlfriends over for cocktails or mocktails, a few eats and take home treats!

Flirty Fizz

Work It Out #rebelworkouts
January24.png

Hi there! My name is Kelsey Kolrud, Cooper Trained and Certified personal trainer. While much of my kinesiology education from Louisiana State University may have prepared me to work with people individually, my true passion is to train people on the field as athletes and empower them to live and perform to the best of their abilities. I grew up playing competitive sports and lived a very active lifestyle in Evergreen, Colorado. It wasn’t until I left home and moved south for school that my body and mind underwent some pretty significant changes. When I say “changes”, I’m referring to an obscene amount of gumbo, po boys, daiquiris, and an incredibly toxic relationship. At my “heaviest” point, just finishing college, I weighed 145 pounds -- fast forward to a much healthier me, and I still weighed 145 pounds! Only now, I was stronger, leaner, more flexible, and the happiest I’d been in a long time (check out my transformation photo). More and more lately, I’m asked what my big “secret” was in my physical transformation and it is SO cool, that I just can’t wait to share it with you!

You ready for it? No, really. It’s good.

Here it is...

There is no big secret.

BOOM! #MicDrop

I didn’t go on a diet, I didn’t obsess over changing my body, I didn’t starve myself, I didn’t do a million sit ups or run 10 miles each day. No. I fell in love with the process and the results followed. I surrounded myself with a community of like-minded individuals and became healthier and happier for it. I eliminated toxins in my environment that were debilitating to my performance and my health and things changed.

Taking care of yourself, leading a healthier lifestyle, and living proudly and comfortably in your own skin is SO much simpler than we tend to make it. So, here are a couple tips I’ll invite you to follow to make your fitness journey as simple and as rewarding as possible:

  1. Reward your body with physical activity, get outside, and celebrate what you CAN do- rather than punishing yourself for what you ate.

  2. Ditch the scale- I would MUCH rather my body fat % go down than my weight any day! Honestly, I believe that the scale creates an incredibly unhealthy relationship between you and your fitness journey.

  3. Feed yo’self, child! One of my healthiest body composition scans was taken after I made the commitment to eat more *gasp!*, lift heavier and fuel my body for performance, instead of restricting myself for weight loss. **I’d highly recommend reaching out so we can calculate your daily caloric intake goal to account for physical activity!

  4. Invest in the rep! Did you know that you’re more likely to see results if you’re intentional with your movements and actually think about a given muscle you’re working? It’s called mind-muscle connection. Science = so cool! So don’t just go through the motions simply because you need to “get through” your workout. Enjoy every moment of it!

  5. Treat yo’self to things that motivate you and make you happy! For example, I suffered from heat headaches ALL. THE. TIME.. then, I treated myself to Peppermint Essential Oil and my Deep Relief roll-on at every workout, and it gave me LIFE out in that 100° heat. Sure, I may have been the crazy oil lady, but was I busting it out there? You bet! #NoShameInMyOilGame

  6. Stretch & foam roll! When your muscles are in a constant tightened state, you’ll only be able to challenge your body as far as it’ll go. If you prepare and recover properly, you’ve now significantly increased your range of motion and potential for major GAINZ.

  7. Fuel & Recover!

Fuel: Think of your body like your dream car- you wouldn’t want to hit the roads pedal to the metal if you hadn’t properly fueled up ahead of time.. same goes for your body! Your workout is only as good as the prep you put into it. I typically suggest a good healthy carb as your body’s primary fuel source. I also love my Ningxia Nitro for an extra push!

Recovery: Once you’ve broken your muscle fibers down, you’ll want to be intentional in what you’re going to do to repair them. I typically suggest a healthy protein along with a branched chain amino acid within the hour to rebuild those muscle fibers!

** My favorite post-workout snacks include a peppermint chocolate protein shake and an ice cold shaker of Aminowise

My favorite YL products that support and equip me for optimal performance:

  • Ningxia Red & Ningxia Nitro- Whether I’m leading a camp at 5 a.m. or working out at 5 a.m, I take one shot of Ningxia Nitro before every workout to support my alertness and cognitive fitness. Also part of my morning routine- a Yeti filled to the top with ice water and 2 oz. of Ningxia Red. I can literally feel my body thanking me as I take the first sip!

  • Peppermint- I use a drop in my water to energize and cool me off from the inside out! I also love to use peppermint on my temples, neck, and wrists to serve as my “AC in a bottle” for those hot summer days.

  • Deep Relief roll on- This is one tool that I will never go without! I primarily use Deep Relief to ease tension in my neck that typically amplifies my heat headaches. (Just one more reason for the peppermint). I also like to use this bad boy to alleviate any minor aches and pains I may feel during my workout- because, muscles.

  • AminoWise- It is important to rebuild your muscles after you’ve just broken them down with a great strength workout. AminoWise contains branched chain amino acids, which have been shown to aid in preventing muscle catabolism from exercise. This supplement also helps to support your muscles during and after exercise to enhance recovery and performance.

  • Cool Azul Sports Gel- Y'all, this stuff right here is the bomb.com. I use this to cool my muscles down after a tough workout or to relieve any lingering aches and pains I may have.

I could go on for dayz on things that have worked for me.. but the truth is- this is your journey. So my challenge to you is to enjoy it to the fullest and continue to REWARD yourself for the daily accomplishments you make! Now get out there and #WorkItOut!

In wellness, purpose, abundance (and a whole lot of oils),
